Ruapehu volcanic alert level change another blow to local businesses

The ban on going up to the crater lake at Mount Ruapehu is being called another kick in the guts for the local tourism industry already devastated by the impact of Covid-19.

There is now a two kilometre exclusion zone around the lake after the volcanic alert level was raised to two yesterday indicating moderate to heightened unrest.
